Martin Slidel MA (Lond) MISM is a music composer and author. His music is suited to film, TV, and performance. Martin writes contemporary yet attractive music that, though distinctive, appeals to a wide audience. He welcomes commission.

Martin’s slide-show combining photos by Piroska Markus with a piece for flute and snare drum (Mirror) opened the London Fragments exhibition at artFix in Greenwich. He is currently working with Italian instrumentalist Giordano Mor and Duo Insolitum. Martin’s composition for trombone, piano, and percussion (London Bone) was performed as part of the SoundShapes Tour of The Netherlands in 2024.
Martin initially studied recorder, violin, and electronic organ. Following studies of Jazz organ, he progressed to Classical organ under the tutorage of a former cinema organist. Performances thus ranged from church recitals to ‘Light’ music. Martin is a graduate of ‘Music With Visual Practice’ (Brighton). His tutor was composer Billy Cowie. Martin has collaborated (with composer Emily Madill) on an audio installation of three days duration at an Open Studios event at Trinity Buoy Wharf. He has contributed music for a TV pilot for Xon Productions, and has written soundtracks for educational videos for All Kids ABC.
Martin has produced and hosted music and spoken word events at The Poetry Society and at The Candid Arts Trust (London). A slide-show was selected for the International Festival Of Live Art in Brighton, “An innovative evening of music and theatre.” (Sallis Benney Theatre). He was an Area Winner for Yamaha Festival (Hampshire) and a Regional Finalist for The Yamaha Centenary Festival at The Victoria Rooms (Bristol). Martin’s compositions are often featured in the Top Five of the ReverbNation Classical Chart (London). Selected piano pieces are recorded by Gareth Knox.
Martin’s poetry is published by Resurgant. A performance text, A Brittle Look, was filmed at The Poetry Society by Rockyoumentally. He edited a literary journal, Playerist, during the 2010s. Martin’s writing appears in 20×20, Maintenant, and The Screech Owl.
